Steam Punk

Steam Punk

Steam Punk is a concept I've never engaged with and as such i found this task challenging but interesting at the same time. For this references became especially helpful in forming a design. 

Eventually i moved onto making numerous sketches in an attempt to fully understand the aesthetic of steam punk. 

Slowly i moved towards making a type of mercenary or thief type character aided by various gadgets and tools at her disposal. 

Most of my designs had a mechanical arm accompanied by usually by 1 or 2 bronze smokestacks on her back. I eventually decided against this as i felt there would be a problem practically of having large steam cooling towers and mechanical arms made of various alloys being attached to smaller character. 

Thus instead of  mechanical arms it would instead be a light weight skeletal frame.

I wanted to also incorporate a type of magic theme into the final design by having much of the characters tech be powered by a type of eldritch energy as opposed to coal or even some form of a dynamo.
